Our favourite products, advice and news on all things TMC.
I've never really been into the whole Kim.K extreme contour thing. Its all just a little too much for me... but then isn't that the great thing about makeup? That we can all choose to wear as much or as little (or even none!!) as we want? It's only makeup and frankly I'm really tired of all the makeup bashing going around. If it makes YOU feel good then that really is all that matters!
If you are doing bridal work or just want your own makeup to last more than 5 minutes then you definitely DO need to use primers. Every company seems to have one on the market but, from my own experience, they don’t all do what they should do, improve the texture of the skin and help makeup last longer.
I know what you're thinking. It's bloody freezing so why am I doing a sunscreen product review??
Anything that will make my clients eye makeup last through tears is a winner in my book and Iridis Cosmetics Eye Primer is most definitely a winner!
Not too long ago the terms 'cruelty free' and 'luxury makeup products' were not synonymous. "Cruelty free" equaled hippies in tie dye with homemade, hand-mixed mineral foundations and berry stained lips. And while personally I am very fond of my tie dyed makeup maker sisters, the truth is that those products were just not that suitable for professional use. Sure, for everyday use, natural mineral makeup is a great option but it just didn't stand up to professional use when a client is paying good money to have a product that will last an entire day through tears and sweat.
When I first tried the Beauty Blender is was BIG NEWS! I had been converted to using a sponge!! Ok well not entirely. My favourite toy in my kit will always be my airbrush, but when it comes to blending out concealer before I spray I had always been a brush girl. And it’s been that way for two decades ago! Having never been able to re-create the same flawless skin finish with either my fingers or those stupid triangle sponge thingys, I was reluctant to give the Beauty Blender a go. I mean come on… it’s just a sponge!!
But I was wrong! This perfect little hot pink, egged shaped wonder makes applying the perfect foundation base so quick and easy. It’s brilliant for both personal and professional use and I have to say I have been super impressed with how easily it helps pimples, scars, pores and even fine lines disappear. (Assuming you’re using a half decent primer and foundation to begin with.) It feels lovely in the hand and all my clients have commented on how soft it feels on their skin. It comes in a bunch of colours and there is even a super tiny mini version for even more precise application. These little babies are meant to be used WET so give them a good soak and squeeze first and then use a press and roll technique to get a beautiful finish. They work beautifully with both my Urban Decay and IRIDIS concealers.
At AUS$30 for just 1 sponge it is a lot to pay, but then it really is SO much more than a just a sponge. The Beauty Blender is washable and reusable and if you lovingly care for it using its very own Solid Cleansing Bar, it will reward you with a perfect base many, many applications into the future.
Available in store or online at Sephora and Crush Cosmetics this is definitely one to use both in the kit and at home!!
Full disclosure. All products and tools I review, unless otherwise stated, have been paid for and, like them or not, all opinions are completely my own. No one pays or bribes me, although you are welcome to try :) I only review products I love and use both personally and professionally in my kit.
Time for a review so thought I would jump in with one of my favourite little products, the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar.
These little tubes of liquid lipsticks are so overly pigmented the tiniest drop would paint Aerosmiths mouth about 10 times!! It really is crazy how far they can go which should also be a word of warning to be super careful around clothing and carpets...and dogs and kids!! I have heard people say that the tubes pop easily, which would be a DISASTER in your makeup bag/kit/travelling bag etc, so while this has never happened to me I am super careful to pack mine in a small plastic container where they cant get squashed or leak everywhere.
OCC are living up to their name and are obsessively producing the Lip Tar in an ever growing rainbow of colour. The massive range already includes all the primary colours as well as black and white so the potential for creating even more new colours is only limited by your imagination.
For the professional artist out there, these babies are densely pigmented, long lasting and super easy to blend. The can be used in all sorts of creative ways although I would steer clear of the eyes because it does contain peppermint oil.
For the rest of you makeup addicts these are perfect for every day use and require very little re-application. I prefer to load up a lip brush that has a lid so I don't need to carry around the whole tube. Try Hush and Interlace for something soft and neutral, Stalker and Anime for bold and gorgeous or Grandma and Beta for an oh-so-hot-right-now orange statement lip.
But as very little is absolutely perfect in this world (Haigh's Chocolate Frogs being the exception!!) I do have a couple of little sticking points with the Lip Tars. If you apply too much product the colour will bleed and crack. I also found them quite drying on my lips but then I get that with pretty much any lip product. There is a Clear in the Lip Tar and it is recommended to apply this first to prevent all of the above. Also exfoliate the lips and let a little lip conditioner absorb before applying the colour in thin layers until you have built it up to the desired intensity.
And finally, all of OCC products are Vegan and Bunny Certified by PETA. Just more to love!!
